Volunteer with IBTR
This page features some photos and descriptions of the various charitable events which the IBTR has been proud to sponsor and participate in. There are also some photos of events which have been held by the Insurance Brokers of Toronto Region.
IBTR Attends Humber College Night
Here is our board member Brendon Dunkley attending a Humber College event to present our annual scholarship. This year the scholarship was awarded to Sophia Gudipati.
IBTR College Scholorship Programs
Keeping the Insurance Broker channel rich with knowledgeable individuals is one of the many missions of the IBTR. Each year we dedicate some of our Community Outreach dollars toward a scholarship program at a local college.
This year we received a very nice report and letter back from the recipient at Humber College.
IBTR Supports 2019 Run for Southlake
Supporting local institutions is important, and representing the Insurance Brokers in Toronto we had Jurenda Landry and Taurien Daley attend, seen here. This is just another of many events we attend and support in our various communities in the GTA.
IBTR Attends the 2019 Chief of Police Dinner
Our Board Members Anastasia Manolakos and Taurien Daley attended the Police of Chief dinner as guests of our Platinum Sponsor, Crime Stoppers. Thank you for the work you do and services you provide, Crime Stoppers!
IBTR Presents 2019 Seneca Scholarship
The IBTR has joined Seneca College to provide one student from each year a scholarship. This year the Scholarship went to Diego Gallo Macin, pictured here with Diego are our Board Memebers Stanislav Kojokin, and Jurenda Landry.
IBTR Attends and Speaks at the 2018 Seneca College Career Night
We’re continually trying to be more involved with Seneca College. This year Board Members Shani Campbell, Joseph Carnivale, Stanislav (Staz) Kojokin and Alex Guthrie all attended and spoke with the students. Many students believe that being a Broker means to be in a ‘tough sales’ position and with an ‘unstable career’, but we were able to clarify many of the misunderstandings. Alex joined panelists Brad Keeling, a Claims Adjuster from Travelers Insurance, Cheryl Jairaj, a Broker from Dalton Timmis and Keith Kitchen, an Underwriter from Aviva Insurance, and moderated by Trevor Butrumm of the Insurance Institute of Canada they spoke to all of the students about the different aspects of their careers, upcoming trends and what they need to know before entering the insurance industry. Students will continue to post their resumes on Seneca’s Work-Integrated Learning website so be sure to check those out now!
Liberal MP Francesco Sorbara speaks at our November Breakfast Meeting – 2017
It was a pleasure to host Mr. Sorbara who spoke frankly to our members in attendance about the recent tax changes for Small and Medium Enterprises. Francesco managed to handle all of the questions and overall the meeting was successful. We need to continue to speak with our local MPs and MPPs about the issues that affect us!
IBTR Donates to the Vaughan Food Bank – October 2017
We were humbled and impressed when we had the opportunity to visit the Vaughan Food Bank and meet with the organizers. This food bank operates solely on a volunteer basis and no one receives a salary, including our contact and lead organizer, Peter (featured in the picture below). Despite the seeming wealth which resides in the Vaughan area, over 20 new families per week register for help with this food bank. The food bank provides over 1 million meals per year on their slim operating budget of $10,000, so every penny of this donation goes a long way! We’d like to thank the Vaughan Food Bank for supporting local families in need!
Million Dollar Smiles and IBTR Join Forces to Build a Playground! (2017)
This September we joined the Million Dollar Smiles group again and built a playground for a child and her family who aren’t in a situation to splurge for something of that nature. It was a beautiful day, and not only did the family help, but the little girl was totally blown away when she saw it and proceeded to thank us all and introduce us all, a little more formally, to her family.
IBTR Attends and Speaks at the 2017 Seneca Career Fair
We’ve been acquainted with Seneca College for the past several years, and each year we get more and more involved. This year our President Frank Silla, along with board members Stanislav (Staz) Kojokin and Trevor McIntosh, spoke with all of the students as they came by the booth. Broke down the walls of misunderstanding when it comes to what it is we do and what we represent. Staz even got up and spoke to the group as a whole. Seneca students continue to forward their resumes to the IBTR, and we request that they post them onto the insurance careers websites already available (please see the Careers Page).
Overall, a success!
IBTR Sponsors East York’s 60th Canada Day Celebration (2017)
Board Member Trevor McIntosh manned the booth this year at East York’s 60th Canada Day Celebration. He engaged with the public; drumming up conversation about who and what the independent insurance broker is and does, and all those with specific insurance inquiries were referred to the IBAO website to search for a Broker.
The event was a success in that all of the promotional items (IBTR Pens and Golf Towels) were given away to help promote our important industry!
Furthermore, IBTR was one of the leading sponsors, sponsoring the “Bingo” game at the festival. Overall it was a successful event and we were glad to be a part of keeping this fantastic celebration alive!

Alberta Fires Emergency Appeal, A few words from the Board of Directors
In the beginning of May, 80,000 residents of Fort McMurray and surrounding areas were evacuated from their homes due to a devastating wildfire. This has had an effect on so many lives, and insurance company claim payments can only help with so much.
People from across the country have banded together to provide help and support wherever possible. We are very proud to announce that on behalf of the independent insurance brokers of Toronto Region, we were able to make a donation of $5,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to help with their efforts in providing assistance and care for the families and businesses that were, and still are, affected by the wildfires. It is because of you, the members of our association, that we were able to make such a donation! Thank you.
As of June 2, 2016, the wildfires in Alberta continue to burn and families are still suffering from the loss of their homes. If you would like to continue to donate, please donate to the Canadian Red Cross.
